Newbury Berkshire: Spring into Recycling

Spring into Recycling

Longer opening hours will be in place from 1st April 2009 at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) on Newtown Road, Newbury, managed by Veolia Environmental Services on behalf of West Berkshire Council.

The new hours will see the HWRC open for an additional two hours in the evening, making it easier for people to use the site around their own schedules; the opening hours are 8.30 am until 7.30 pm from 1st April until 30th September. The changed opening times match the longer daylight hours during the spring and summer.

The new Recycle for West Berkshire newsletter, which is being delivered to properties in the district, replaces the waste collection calendar that expires at the end of April.

The new calendars being delivered also include details of the changes to waste collections around Easter, which are as follows:

Geoff Findlay, West Berkshire's Executive Member for the Environment and Waste said, "By collecting waste just a day later around these bank holidays, we avoid the inconvenience of storing waste for up to 2 weeks that residents previously experienced. "

Tracey Reilly, General Manager of Veolia Environmental Services in West Berkshire said, "The changes to opening hours at the HWRC give residents more options when bringing their waste to the site for reuse and recycling. This should make it easier for residents to increase recycling and send even less to landfill."
