A recent inspection by Ofsted has found that Springfield Primary School in Tilehurst is a good school and taking the right steps to improve since the last visit.
The report states that teaching and learning are good, with an exciting variety of teaching strategies being used which enable pupils to make use of their previous knowledge and understanding. Headteacher, Angela Hay was described as "strong and energetic" and a "good leader and manager".
Inspectors found that pupils have many opportunities to take up individual responsibilities and by the time they leave they have good skills to meet their needs for the future. Investment in a wide range of information technology has been highlighted in the report as increasing pupils enjoyment of learning which helps to raise achievement in all subjects, but especially in English, Maths and Science.
Inspectors recommend that the current strategies for raising achievement in Key Stage 1 are proving effective and could be built upon further.
Angela Hay said: "We are delighted with the report as it reflects the hard work and commitment from all our staff to raising standards in children's learning."
Barbara Alexander, West Berkshire Executive Councillor for Children and Young People said: This is a very positive Ofsted report and reflects well on both the staff and pupils. I am pleased that the inspectors found that good progress is being made and that investment has paid off by helping to improve standards."
