Newbury Berkshire: West Berkshire gritting situation

West Berkshire gritting situation

Highways officers at West Berkshire Council report this morning (Friday 6 Feb) that the total stocks of salt-grit available allow for just one more grit-run, and only of the District's primary road network.

Additional stocks are continually being sought, but so far none are forthcoming as a result of the national shortage.

This means that, following the final grit run today, it is unlikely there will be any further gritting of the District's roads until more stocks arrive. Gritting of any roads in the District over the weekend is unlikely.

All drivers are urged to take note of this situation.

Meanwhile, the Council's highways contractors have been deployed to town centres to help clear pavements of snow, and spread any grit that is left in roadside grit bins.

Further updates will be issued should the situation change.
