Newbury Berkshire: BUS SERVICE DIVERSIONS FOR NORTHBROOK STREET SEWER WORKS

BUS SERVICE DIVERSIONS FOR NORTHBROOK STREET SEWER WORKS

Four bus stops in Northbrook Street will be closed as Newbury Buses divert services in Newbury town centre from March 30.

Diversions have been announced by Newbury Buses for the duration of essential sewer works in Northbrook Street which is not expected to reopen until April 27.

Buses to and from Reading and Thatcham will continue to serve the stops on the London Road at Faraday Road.

But to reach the bus station, buses will travel south on the A339 via Bear Lane to stop at the Post Office in Cheap Street.

Buses from the bus station will serve the existing stop in Bartholomew Street before turning right into Mansion House Street where a temporary stop will be located at the entrance to Market Place (close to CafĂ© Uno).

This stop will be the one to serve the south of Northbrook Street.  Buses will then travel via Bear Lane and northbound on the A339.

Buses to and from Hungerford, Lambourn and East and West Illsey will continue via Old Bath Road, but will use London Road, Robin Hood roundabout and the A339.

Temporary bus stops will be located in London Road close to the junction with Park Way to serve the north of the town centre.

Said Norman Fryer-Saxby, Manager of Newbury Buses:  “These diversions are necessary so that essential sewer works can take place in connection with the Park Way development.

“We have, in conjunction with West Berkshire Council, decided on these particular diversions and together we shall be publishing leaflets and notices on buses advising customers of where to board their respective bus.

“We apologise for any inconvenience due to the unavoidable disruption to our services, but I would emphasise that timetables for all Newbury Buses services remain unchanged during the sewer works in Northbrook Street.”

He said further information can be obtained from Newbury Buses travel shop at the bus station.  Customers can also call 01635 567500 or visit Newbury Buses website at www.newbury-buses.co.uk

Mr. Fryer-Saxby added:  “As work progresses we will update customers on any further changes to our services.”
