Newbury Town Council are pleased to announce that the new concrete skate park and new play
area will be officially opened by the Mayor, representatives from Greenham Common Trust and
Playbuilder on Sunday 3 July at 12.00 noon. Children from Victoria Park Nursery School will be
also assisting the Mayor with the opening of the new play area.
Greenham Common Trust and the Government sponsored Playbuilder initiative helped support
Newbury Town Council in providing £50,000 each to towards the total cost of £200,000 for the new
skate park. Greenham Common Trust provided a further £50,000 towards the total cost of
£95,000 for the new play area.
Top skateboarders and BMXers will be in attendance to give demonstrations of their skills. The
skate park constructors, Maverick Industries, will be organising skateboard and BMX competitions
throughout the day. Prizes have been provided by the following event sponsors: Vans “off The
Wall”, SS20, Skullcandy, rubicon skateboard school, 2S twoseasons, NV MBR, keen dist., The
Lab, Tech Deck and vitaminwater.
Council Leader, Cllr Julia Swift Hook, said: "We now have a competition standard skate park in
Victoria Park, which puts Newbury firmly on the map for skateboards and BMXers. The new play
area provides a range of play equipment for all ages and offers the versatility of expansion in the
future
