Theale Green Community School will welcome Josef Perl and his wife Sylvia on Wednesday 22nd April . . .
Mr Perl will be talking to pupils in Year 9 currently studying the events of World War 2, as well as some 6th form students and members of staff about what it was like living through the Holocaust.
The presentation is designed to help pupils studying the period to understand what it might have been like to experience wartime occupation and the horrors of living through the mass extermination of millions of Jews.
Mr Perl was born in what was then Czechoslovakia in 1930. He was 8 years old and at school when the harassment of Jews started in his home town. On one visit to his house soldiers took and shot his dog. Later he was imprisoned in several different Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz.
He has spent the last 20 years visiting schools and other educational institutions to talk to students about his experiences during the holocaust.
